Chinese tuition, from Primary 1 to secondary school

Normal and Higher Chinese for primary students, and Chinese for secondary students, taught by teachers who speak English and Chinese, so they can explain to your child, and to you, in either language.

What does primary Chinese tuition cover at each level?

Each stage builds on the last: 汉语拼音 and characters in the lower primary years, then vocabulary, grammar and composition, then the idioms, comprehension and oral that the PSLE asks for.

Primary Chinese, Primary 1 to 6
LevelWhat we work on
Primary 1 and 2汉语拼音 (Hanyu Pinyin), character recognition and stroke order, picture talk and guided reading.
Primary 3 and 4Vocabulary, grammar, comprehension strategies, and picture and composition writing.
Primary 5 and 6Idioms (成语) and proverbs, higher-order comprehension, composition and oral, with PSLE Chinese practice papers.

There is also a foundation class: basic vocabulary, strokes and sentence patterns, to build a child's confidence and interest in Chinese before the harder work.

Do you teach Higher Chinese as well as Chinese?

Yes. We teach both Normal and Higher Chinese at primary level, covering vocabulary and sentence structure, comprehension, writing technique, oral picture description and conversation, and idioms and proverbs. Tell us which your child takes in school, and the centre will place them in the matching class.

How do you prepare for PSLE Chinese?

In Primary 5 and 6 the class works through PSLE Chinese papers alongside the syllabus: advanced vocabulary and idioms, higher-order comprehension, composition, and oral practice in picture description and conversation.

Do you teach secondary school Chinese?

Yes. Secondary Chinese follows the MOE syllabus your child is learning in school. Tell us their level and school when you message, and the centre will tell you which class runs this term. See all secondary subjects.

How does student care help with Chinese?

Children in our student care use Chinese every afternoon, not only in tuition. Homework time includes English and Chinese spelling (听写) practice and revision in Chinese.

  • Show and tell, storytelling and creative writing run in Chinese as well as English.
  • Chinese calligraphy is part of the enrichment schedule.
  • Children also practise Chinese speaking and vocabulary with our AI robot.
  • Teachers speak English and Chinese fluently, and keep you updated in a WhatsApp group for your child's level.
